Health implications from drinking coffee is a topic we have all stumbled across at some point in our lives but with statistics being forced upon us from both sides it’s difficult to determine what’s really in our best interests.

However, the latest surge of scientific evidence is doing a great job at convincing us that coffee really is actually very healthy (not that we’re biased!).

The studies show that coffee drinkers have a much lower risk at several diseases so perhaps that daily dose of caffeine is doing much more for you than you previously thought.

So, for coffee lovers everywhere, here is our list of ‘Top 5 Reasons You Should Drink More Coffee.’

Alzheimer’s Annihilator

Beverages most commonly known for being high in antioxidants include green tea and cocoa. However, scientists have identified that coffee in fact has been proven to hold more antioxidant activity than the previous mentioned, with more than 1,000 antioxidants being found in unprocessed coffee beans. With this in mind, several studies show that coffee drinkers have up to a 65% lower risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease as well as Parkinson’s.

Defence Against Diabetes

Growing research suggests that the frequent consumption of coffee may be beneficial in keeping Diabetes at bay. A study has found that the risk of developing Diabetes dropped by 7% for each daily cup of coffee - but how does it work? According to scientific evidence, it is believed that the antioxidants found in coffee boost cells’sensitivity to insulin therefore helping to regulate blood sugar levels.

Liver Love

The consumption of coffee has been linked to lowering the risk of developing several liver diseases including cirrhosis and liver cancer. Research is limited however, studies have shown that the more coffee people drink, the lower their risk of acquiring such complaints. Possible explanations for this may be that caffeine and its antioxidant qualitiescan prevent liver inflammation and inhibit cancer cells from growing.

Defeat Depression

Several studies have found an overwhelming link between coffee consumption and depression. The data suggests that heavy coffee drinkers in fact seemed to have up to a 20% decrease in their risk of developing depression. This is thought to be due to the fact that caffeine activates neurotransmitters that control mood including dopamine and serotonin.

Enhance Endurance

Up until now we have always believed the caffeine is dehydrating and one of the main reasons why we are told to avoid it, especially pre or post work out. However, recent evidence suggests that coffee consumption doesn’t dehydrate exercisers to enough of an extent to interfere with their performance. In fact quite the contrary, coffee has been proven to enhance and support endurance by fighting fatigue and strengthening muscle contraction.

So there we have it! Now you don’t need to feel guilty about your daily dose of coffee!
