Rightmove have predicted that house prices could increase by 8% next year due the lack of new properties coming onto the market in comparison to the number of people who are buying homes.

Miles Shipside, Rightmove director and housing market analyst says;

"There's a listing gap to fill. While sales transactions are up 13% so far in 2013, the number of newly listed properties is only up by 2%,"

So now is a great time to sell, but what can you do to increase the value of your home?

Here are 3 of the most popular and best ways to increase your house value.

1. Create More Space

One of the greatest ways to increase your house value is to create as much space as you can. If you can make your home look bigger, you can easily sell it for more.

If you have a non-structural wall, knock is out to create an even larger space. Or if you have a kitchen island, get rid of it. It may cost you a couple of hundred pounds but you can easily create the impression of a larger home.

Another good tip is that if you have a garage, get rid of it and turn it into an extra room. Recent figures suggest 90 percent of British garages don’t even contain a car!

2. Invest in a Loft Conversion

Experts say loft conversions can increase the value of a home by an average of £20,876 but will only cost you around £10,000. Loft conversions are relatively easy but you may need planning permission first so check before you invest!

3. Turn a Room into a Bedroom

If you have a spare room like a den or two living rooms, consider turning it into a bedroom. It is very easy to do - just adding a bed and a wardrobe can mean your 3 bedroom house has suddenly turned into a 4 bedroom house. This can dramatically increase the value of your home.
